The University of Michigan has an extensive history in college athletics, particularly in football. The Wolverines have 894 wins, a .735 win percentage (both college records), and 11 national championships. The school has also has a record 42 Big Ten Championships. 3 Heisman trophy winners have also come from the school. Running back Tom Harmon won the award in 1940, Wide Receiver Desmond Howard in 1991, and
Cornerback Charles Woodson in 1997. Michigan has also produced arguably the greatest Quarterback of all time in Tom Brady.
Michigan also has an abundance of rivalries. Michigan and the Minnesota Golden Gophers annually compete for the Little Brown Jug trophy which dates back to 1909. Michigan leads the series 67-22-3. Michigan's interstate rivalry with the Michigan State Spartans is also well documented. The teams started competing for the Paul Bunyan Trophy in 1953. Michigan leads the overall series 67-32-5.

Michigan Stadium
Commonly referred to as the Big House, Michigan Stadium is the largest college football stadium in the country with 109,901 seats. It regularly exceeds this capacity however, and it recently set a record for attendance on September 10, 2011 with 114,804 fans attending. Michigan beat the visiting Notre Dame team in a thrilling comeback, 35-31.
On December 11, 2010 a hockey game was held in the Stadium and came to be called "The Big Chill" The event set a world record for attendance at a hockey game with 113,411 people packed into the stadium. Michigan beat the Michigan State Spartans 5-0
